The event will feature hands-on demonstrations with industry experts at the ready to offer free insight and impartial advice.

We encourage our attendees to visit as many stands as possible and talk to the different organisations exhibiting.

Get Skilled stands

Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try a variety of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity.

Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we can promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

Get Skilled 1:
Get skilled in Hairdressing/Barbering and Construction
Presented by Skills Group

Try your hand at the initial stages of building a house with the construction department and learn a range of hairdressing/barbering techniques. Meet industry experts to discuss future careers and find out what it’s really like to study with Skills Group from exisiting learners.


Get Skilled 2:
Get skilled in Construction
Presented by Barratt Homes

Gain insight into the trades offered at Barratt Homes and experience a day in the life of a bricklayer and carpenter. Meet some real apprentices to discuss their experiences and find out what life is like on-site and in college.


Get Skilled 3:
Get skilled in Art and Design 
Presented by Plymouth College of Art 

Discover how to use a variety of materials to make, create and innovate. Learn some new skills in macro photography, design your own tote bags and play with a real-time green screen where you can see yourself places over a background of your own choosing.


Get Skilled 4:
Get skilled in the Military and Protective Services, Land-Based Engineering and Plant Operations 
Presented by Dutchy College

Interested in a career in the Armed Forces or Blue Light Service? The Military and Protective Services (MaPS) course will give you the best preparation! Talk to staff and students and try the kit and equipment, you can also have a go at ‘lifting your fingerprints’. Test your skills at building your own Lego Technic Tractor with the Land-Based Engineering team and try virtually driving some construction plant equipment.

Live Opportunities Board

The Live Opportunities Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available to you in your region.

Exhibitors use this board to post job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you also have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role.

This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

Live Opportunities Board @ Skills Humber

Health Care Zone

If you’re interested in a career in medicine, nursing, social care or general health, this zone brings all our healthcare related exhibitors into one designated area.


Inflatable Boat

Developed to meet the requirement of special and unobtrusive operations. Hosted by The British Army, the inflatable boat is commonly used by soldiers and is designed for helicopter drop/air drop and underwater cache operations.


Activities on stands

  • Try on uniform and learn about careers within the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. 
  • Learn about the different roles available at Plymouth Community Homes and take a selfie on a polaroid camera capturing yourself at work.
  • Get involved in some music technology workshops with dBs Music. 
  • Test your reaction time with Bournemouth University. 
  • Dress up like a surgeon with Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and view and work alongside a virtual tour of their Theatre departments.
  • Play giant jenga and win prizes with City College Plymouth. 
  • Learn basic first-aid, how to restart a heart (CPR) and how to use a defilibrillator with Scott Medical and Healthcare College.
