Get Skilled stands

Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

 

Get Skilled 1
Get Skilled in Construction
Presented by: Barratt Developments Ltd
Have a go at laying some bricks or try your hand at cutting skirting and architrave to the correct angle. There will also be 1st, 2nd and 3rd year apprentices on hand to talk to face to face as well as the apprentice champion officer for the Exeter division available to discuss in more detail their apprenticeship programme.

Get Skilled with City College Plymouth
Presented by: City College Plymouth
Whether you are interested in cooking up a storm, creative hair styling and nail art, or any of the STEM industries, there is a course for everyone at City College.

 

Get Skilled 3
Get skilled in Art, Design & Media
Presented by: Plymouth College of Art
Visit one of the workshops running throughout both days and get hands on across Art, Design and Media. Try printing and flocking tote bags, animation turn style creating or attend one of the pop up fashion photography workshops.

 

Get Skilled 4
Get skilled in Sport, Carpentry or try the Military Academy
Presented by: Cornwall College Group
Use VR headsets and a metal detector or try on militarykit and equipment with the military academy. Test your fitness levels and compete with your friends with the timed kayak challenge or try the timed competition putting together a wooden spiral staircase & building bird boxes.

 

Get Skilled 5
Get Skilled in Carpentry and Painting & Decorating
Presented by: Skills Group
Try the stencilling and graining workshop in front of the Live Art Wall, which will showcase all of the creations over the two days or learn how to cut the components required for a hipped roof using a variety of tools ready to add to the Real Roof.

 

Live News Board

The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available in your region including, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. The exhibitors post these vacancies on the Live News Board at the event for you to view. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

Teachers Hub

Hosted by the National Careers Service, the Teachers Hub will give you and your colleagues the opportunity to network with other teachers and careers advisors over complimentary tea or coffee.

Get your hair styled or nails painted with GHQ.

Learn how to wire a plug with Focus Training Group or see if you can complete the electrical circuit with their interactive game.

Visit the Skills Group’s hairdressing, barbering and beauty professionals on stand 90 for live demonstrations and hands on experience.
