The event will feature hands-on demonstrations with industry experts at the ready to offer free insight and impartial advice.

Get Skilled stands
Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try a variety of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity.
Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we can promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.
Get Skilled in Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating and Plastering
Presented by Skills Group
Demonstrations will be provided in:
Bricklaying – A team of industry experts will set a live hands-on experience, so you can learn the art of brick and block cavity walling and how to join to a quoin (corner).
Painting and Decorating – Industry experts will set up a Graffiti Art Station in front of a Live Art Wall, which will showcase all your creations.
Plastering – Have a go at the highly skilled art of plastering and put your skills to the test by rendering a demonstration wall.
Get Skilled in The Digital Industries
Presented by City College Plymouth
Wednesday 13th March, 9:30-3pm – Caesar Cipher (wheel) challenge – Can you decode the message in x time (to win a prize), virtual reality headsets, stop-frame animation workshop using Lego, webcam and software.
Wednesday 13th March, 4:30-7pm – Virtual reality headsets and Radio News desk where people can come in and record bulletins and edit this using Adobe Audition software.
Thursday 14th March, 9:30-1pm – ‘Spider’ Robot Demo, virtual reality headsets, Radio News desk where people can come in and record bulletins and edit this using Adobe Audition software.
Get Skilled in Creative Arts
Presented by Plymouth College of Arts
Learn some new skills in macro photography, design your own tote bags and get involved in the Draw-a-Saurus collaborative drawing tree.
There will also be the opportunity to test out the Tilt Brush, where you can test your virtual reality paining abilities!
Get Skilled in Building and Construction
Presented by Barratt David Wilson Homes
Have a go at cutting up some skirting and architrave using a chop saw and fixing skirting to a wall.
You can also test your bricklaying abilities and try out some carpentry equipment.
Get Skilled in Military and Protective Services, Plumbing and Professional Cookery
Presented by Cornwall College Group
The Cornwall College Military Academy and Professional Cookery academic staff and students will be demonstrating Military uniform for visitors to try on, activities including using metal detectors to find objects in sandpit, along with ration packs needed which will be made by professional cookery students. Visiting students will have the opportunity to try all activities.
The Equine team will have VR goggles available for students to sit on a prop horse and ride the facilities at our Duchy College campus.
Live Opportunities Board
The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available to you in your region.
Exhibitors use this board to post job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities.
Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you also have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role.

Start your journey to university or college at NSSW’s pop-up research centre. From iPad career-finders to virtual reality open days, personalised advice to group games – your future starts here. Take part in the Exhibitor Challenge to enjoy treasure-hunting for facts around the event floor, or pick-up an iPersona phone and influence the influencers’ study route.

Get advice and industry insight with Skills Group – Stand 90
Apprentices and trainers will provide live hairdressing demos, covering the latest trends for plaiting, pony’s, waves, curls and up-do’s. Drop by to have your hair creatively styles and see the skills you could be working towards on their full-time/apprenticeship programmes.
The beauty team will provide live demonstrations of the full-time level 2 programme offering manicures and hand massages.
Get hands-on with some real medical equipment with Medical Mavericks – Stand 60
Take a look inside your skin in the vein scanner, find out how much more your body can grow using the ultrasound, see what lies beneath your nails in their capiliary microscopes and practice your key-hole surgery with their laparoscopic surgery kits.
Take a 9 minute virtual aircraft tour with the Royal Air Force – Stand 62
The VR experience will take you through the following 5 roles:
- Aircraft Techinician
- Weapon System Administrator (Air Loadmaster)
- Air Operations System Officer
- Intelligence Analyst
- Cyberspace Communication Specialist
