Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.
What Get Skilled stands can you see in 2017?
Get Skilled in Construction
Presented by Stewart Milne Group
Try building a wall, plumbing a tap and wiring a light bulb/doorbell with the Stewart Milne group and get a real taste of what a career in construction could offer you.
Get Skilled in Automotive
Presented by LAGTA Part of Bosch
Use an augmented reality demonstration to see the future of diagnostic abilities, get involved with looking and searching for technical data on any type of car or try and identify engine and transmission components to get a good idea of what a career in automotive might involve.
Get Skilled in Food, Hospitality and Creative Industries
Presented by City of Glasgow College
Day 1: Try mocktail making, watch cookery demonstrations and have a go at napkin folding with Glasgow City College’s hospitality team.
Day 2: Watch a jewellery making live demo, assemble a display window and try different arts and crafts at stand Get Skilled 3 at Skills Scotland Glasgow.
Get Skilled in Computing, Art/Design & Fashion
Presented by Glasgow Clyde College
Day 1: Use one of the drop in workshops to have a go at building hardware and creating software and get a taste of the rage of careers available in computing.
Day 2: Design a variety of fashion accessories using upcycled materials on a tailors dummy and browse the range of portfolios available for each course to get a real idea of what Glasgow Clyde College can offer you in the specialism of fashion, textiles and design.
New to 2017. The Apprenticeship Theatre in association with Skills Development Scotland
This will offer a full programme of exhibitor led seminars promoting the new Foundation Apprenticeship options for S4 students. Sessions will have a limited number of spaces and booked groups will be given priority to attend. Please see below the full list of talks for 2017:

Live Opportunities Board
The Live Opportunities Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available in your region including, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. The exhibitors post these vacancies on the Live Opportunities Board at the event for you to view. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

Get an introduction to the electrical side of construction with Nationwide Training Services by inserting different lengths of resistant cable which will either make a bulb glow brighter or dimmer.
Try The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow’s virtual reality laparoscopy simulator used by trainees surgeons and experience a virtual anatomy museum from 1860s. Walk through the museum and take part in a challenge to find two items hidden within the museum for the chance to win a prize.
