Get Skilled stands

Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

What’s happening in 2017:

Get Skilled in Early Education and Childcare
Presented by Edinburgh College
Find out what a career in childcare is really like with the use of virtual reality babies. Build your own den or try some exploratory play activities and start thinking about childcare as a valuable career option.

Get Skilled in Healthcare
Presented by NHS Lothian
Get an insight into brain surgery using a microscope and surgical instruments, learn about infant CPR on a resuscitation dummy or build some DNA molecules and look at chromosome pairs for karyotyping. There will also be the opportunity to speak to a variety of different staff in a selection of roles for first hand advice and guidance.

Get Skilled in Electrical & Plumbing
Presented by Nationwide Training Services
Test your skills on the installation challenge and see if you can get a turbine to produce electricity. Race your friends at completing an electrical circuit or learn all about plumbing fittings and how water produces electricity.

Get Skilled in Hairdressing
Presented by Vincent Bell Hairdressing Academy
Watch the demonstration and have a go at braiding, learn new techniques and get some hands on experience at hairdressing from the experts using professional tools and guidance.

Apprenticeship Theatre

New to 2017. The Apprenticeship Theatre in association with Skills Development Scotland
This will offer a full programme of exhibitor led seminars promoting the new Foundation Apprenticeship options for S4 students. Sessions will have a limited number of spaces and booked groups will be given priority to attend. Please see below the full list of talks for 2017:

Careers Hub

This Careers Hub is an area is where you get the chance to have one to one advice from the experts. Topics including careers advice, interview skills, volunteering and starting your own business.

Live News Board

The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available in your region including, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. The exhibitors post these vacancies on the Live Opportunities Board at the event for you to view. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!
