Get Skilled Stands

Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

Stand 1 Get Skilled in Audio Production and Music Business – Presented by SAE Institute
Meet SAE students and staff and learn about the practical elements of the music business and audio production including electronic music composition, live mixing skills, preparation of promotional materials for musical acts and planning of events.

Stand 2 Get Skilled in Health Care – Presented by NHS Lothian
Get involved in a practical demonstration using theatre equipment and watch life science staff at work including ultrasounds, blood film microscopy and chromatography.

Get Skilled in Engineering and Science – Presented by Edinburgh College
Test your engineering skills with virtual welding, bridge building and electrical rigging. Explore the world of static electricity with the Van de Graaff generator, prepare mixing solutions and watch a chemical reaction, plus lots more!

Apprenticeship Theatre

This will offer a full programme of exhibitor led seminars promoting apprenticeship options for students. Sessions will have a limited number of spaces and booked groups will be given priority to attend.

This Careers Hub is an area is where you get the chance to have one to one advice from the experts. Topics including careers advice, interview skills, volunteering and starting your own business.

Live News Board

The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available in your region including, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. The exhibitors post these vacancies on the Live News Board at the event for you to view. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

  • Check out a real life army vehicle courtesy of the British Army
  • Take part in the lollipop stick tower challenge by OPITO. Compete with your friends to see who can build the tallest tower!
  • Have a go with HoloLens, a virtual reality headset with transparent lenses for an augmented reality experience at PwC’s stand
  • Explore electricity through virtual reality headsets and take a journey through a nuclear reactor with EDF Energy
  • Have a go with a buzzwire game and try your luck at a magnetic bee quiz with Scotland’s Rural College
  • Explore hair and beauty techniques, professional cookery, hospitality skills, broadcast media, sound production and more with Edinburgh College
