Get Skilled stands

Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

Get skilled in: Media
Presented by: Access to Music
Stand in front of the green screen and have a go presenting against different backgrounds or visit the VFX zone where you can try manipulating footage into a variety of environments with the use of effects. Any footage you shoot or manipulate can be sent to you directly after the event.


Get Skilled 2
Get skilled in: Basic life support
Presented by: Health Education England
Have a go at giving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using high-tech simulation dolls. The team from North West Ambulance Service will be on hand to show you a key skill that might help you save a life someday. You can also have a look round the ambulance and find out how to become a paramedic.

Get skilled in: Get Skilled in Landbased Activities
Presented by: Reaseheath College
Ride a mechanical horse and get tips from an equine instructor, see the zoo animals and find out about a career as a zoo keeper or discover the sugar art skills from some of the food department students and learn some techniques on personalising your Easter Eggs.

Get skilled in Logistics
Presented by: The National Logistics Academy
Have a look around the National Logistics Academies lorry, explore the cab and have a go at using the tail lift all while learning about careers in logistics.


Skills Showcase

Presented in a gallery style area within the event, this feature will showcase products created by individuals as part of their job or training, representing some of the organisations and companies from the wide selection of key industry sectors exhibiting. Head over and be inspired by the range of products young people in the region have created.

Examples of creations we have had in the past include; a wooden roofing model, re-finished car panel, mini steel bulldozer model, hairdressing mannequins, handmade surfboard with various textiles, dentures and orthodontic appliances and a 3D theatre model, to name a few.

Careers Hub

Gain essential interview skills with the interview coaches and learn what to wear to an interview as well as what not to wear.

Skills Theatre

The Skills Theatre showcases local talent and can include dance, drama, music, cookery, hairdressing and floristry.

Live News Board

The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available in your region including, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities. The exhibitors post these vacancies on the Live News Board at the event for you to view. Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

Activities on stands

Keep a look out for the apprenticeship ambassadors walking around the event. Make sure you stop them to find out all about their apprenticeship story and also what an apprenticeship could do for you.

Learn all about the human body in Teesside Universities interactive body parts game.

Try the virtual reality headset or the higher education game of snakes and ladders with #SEEDIFFERENT.

Ask questions to Bolton College’s NAO robot and see how well it listens to commands.

Experience a virtual reality walkthrough of a Graham project using their VR headset.

Play the Whatuni dingbat game to win prizes!

Play some computer games created by students at the SAE institute and view their TV showreels.

Have a go at virtual welding with UTC Warrington or take a 360 tour of their campus using an ipad.

Visit Manchester College to experience a cabin crew demo, as well as learn how to fit a lock, try the plastering and skimming exercise and have a go on their racing simulation game.
