What’s on at Skills North West 2019

Skills North West is a jam-packed event full of interactive, inspiring and informative activities.

The event features hands-on demonstrations with industry experts at the ready to offer free insight and impartial advice. We encourage our attendees to visit as many stands as possible and talk to the different organisations exhibiting.

This is your opportunity to find out more about what the future has to offer you.

Get Skilled stands

Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try a variety of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity.

Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we can promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

Get Skilled 1:
Get skilled in Creative Education
Presented by Access Creative College

Get in front of the green screen in the video zone, where you can be filmed and film your friends using industry standard equipment.

Get involved in the VFX computer zone where footage is uploaded and manipulated into a variety of environments with use of effects as required.

There will also be the opportunity to access your edited footage after the show. Just ask a member of Access to send it to you!

 Don’t forget to visit our dome where Access Creative College will be hosting a live music session in our Buskers’ Corner.

Get Skilled 3:
Get skilled in Logistics
Presented by The National Logistics Academy

Test your logistic skills on the FLT flight and HGV driving simulators. There will also be a chance to try out some Traffic Office software as well as a Driving Theory & Hazard Perception activity.

 

Get Skilled 4:
Get skilled with the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust

Jump inside a real ambulance to learn basic life-saving skills and speak to the experts about this exciting career path.

Skills Theatre

The Skills Theatre showcases local talent.

The Skills Theatre is always filled with live demonstrations on anything and everything from performing arts to cookery.

Live News Board

The Live News Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available to you in your region.

Exhibitors use this board to post job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities.

Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you also have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role.

Activities on stands – highlights

Take off in a virtual flight simulator with Airbus – Stand 10

Gain some insight into the different types of aircraft using VR and HoloLens. You can also test your pilot skills in a flight simulator.

Find out how well you work under pressure with the British Army – Stand 63 

Test your reflexes on the classic Batak challenge and see how well you work under pressure when crossing a river with only one plank of wood.

Take a taste test with Greene King plc – Stand 60

Think you know your fruits? Test your taste-buds with Greene King and guess which flavours you’re trying.

Take a 9 minute virtual aircraft tour with the Royal Air Force – Stand 34

The VR experience will take you through the following 5 roles:

  • Aircraft Techinician
  • Weapon System Administrator (Air Loadmaster)
  • Air Operations System Officer
  • Intelligence Analyst
  • Cyberspace Communication Specialist
