GET SKILLED STANDS

Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try a variety of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity.

Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we can promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

GET SKILLED 1:
Get skilled in Cyber Security
Presented by Cyber Discovery

Learn more about cyber security as a career and test yourself with CyberStart Go, a series of 12 entry-level cyber security challenges.

You can then sign up for the free Cyber Discovery programme at home which will take you through more difficult challenges and teach you more about the career.

GET SKILLED 2:
Get skilled in Zoology
Presented by Northumberland College

Meet a giant snail, snake and colourful stick insects while learning about the animals and their natural habitats and dare to have a go at guessing the animal in secret boxes. 

GET SKILLED 3:
Get skilled in Game Development, Virtual Reality and Animation
Presented by Sunderland College

Play on games designed by actual students from Sunderland College with VR headsets and learn more about game development, VR and animation.

GET SKILLED 4:
Get skilled in Hair & Beauty, Automotive, Computing and the Digital Arts
Presented by Newcastle College

Experience special effects make-up, hair and nails that will dazzle with a variety of bright colours and glitter available.

If you’re interested in a career in engineering, discover the automotive sector working on a real car’s body work.

Discover how a hobby can turn into a career and immerse yourself in Newcastle College’s gaming section and see if you can the leader board.

The Skills Theatre showcases local talent.

The Skills Theatre is always filled with live demonstrations on anything and everything from performing arts to cookery.

LIVE OPPORTUNITIES BOARD

The Live Opportunities Board aims to provide you with the chance to find out about current vacancies available to you in your region.

Exhibitors use this board to post job vacancies, volunteer opportunities, traineeships, apprenticeship schemes and any other opportunities.

Ensure you take a look so that if any interest you, you also have the chance to speak to the organisation face-to-face at the event and find out all you can about the role.

This is a great way to get ahead of the competition, so don’t forget to take a look!

ACTIVITIES ON STANDS

  • Get interactive with NOF Energy with VR training and a fibre optic fusion splicer.
  • Learn all about the water filtration process, how to fix a water main and guess the different types of jobs available with Northumbrian Water
  • Meet some real apprentices and have a go at some Cyber Security challenges with PwC.
  • Step inside the Eyepod with Specsavers and view life in the eyes of different ages and health stages.
  • Fancy a career in CSI? Take your fingerprints and learn how to examine ridges with Teesside University, you can also turn it into a keyring to take home.
  • Take a step inside The Northern School of Art’s art exhibition and make your mark in the art eagle.
  • Learn all about hairdressing, creative media, game development and science with South Tyneside College.
  • Find out how well you can work under pressure on Tyne Metropolitan College’s batak and rowing competitions. You can also have a go at some construction and art activities.
