Event guide

Get Skilled stands

Dedicated Get Skilled stands offer in-depth knowledge about certain industries. You can discover new talents and try loads of different skills when you get hands-on with a Get Skilled activity. Experts are always on hand to help as you learn something new and try work-based skills; the aim is to ensure each Get Skilled stand represents a different career sector so we promote as wide a range as possible to you, the visitors.

Get Skilled 1: Hospitality

presented by the Culinary Association of Wales

Cook up a storm under the watchful eye of a number of professional chefs from high profile restaurants and hotels in Wales (think Celtic Manor!). You’ll learn from the best while challenging your friends in a flipping brilliant omelette contest – who will create the tastiest snack?

Get Skilled 2: Creative Industries

presented by the Arts Council of Wales

Meet professional artists and learn how to make your own jewellery with the Arts Council of Wales. By speaking with artists who have their own businesses, you can learn about entrepreneurship and discover if forging a career in the creative industry is the path you should take.

Get Skilled 3: Electrotechnical and Engineering

presented by Electrical Contractors’ Association

Sparks will be flying here, with activities demonstrating electrotechnical and engineering careers. Try out thermal imaging with iPhones, challenge your friends to a socket wiring competition and learn about the correct installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Get Skilled 4: Visual Merchandising Competition

presented by Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales

Christmas will be coming early as two Welsh colleges will battle it out in a Visual Merchandising Skills competition. Student visual merchandisers will compete to create the best Christmas themed displays in a makeshift shop.

Skills Showcase

Presented in a gallery style area within the event, this feature will showcase products created by individuals as part of their job or training, representing some of the organisations and companies from the wide selection of key industry sectors exhibiting. Head over and be inspired by the range of products young people in Wales have created.

A special thank you to the following young people for allowing us to display their creations in the Skills Showcase.

Creations range from a Halloween wedding cake, a music video, and a spray-painted car bonnet!

Chris Jones, Aaron Leslie, Chloe Falcon, Shaun Donovan, Nicova Jordan, Misha Williams, Victoria Morgan, Lauren Thomas
