The Prospects Events team headed north last week to get their autumn season of skills events off to a swinging start.
Skills North East took place on 17 and 18 September in the Utilita Arena, Newcastle. The event welcomed 6,456 visitors and 40 exhibitors and the North of Tyne Mayor, Jamie Driscoll, inspired students with a stirring speech about their future careers. He said: “You will be at your most productive when you’re happy; when you believe that what you’re doing has a purpose, because it ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.”
The event was sponsored by the National Apprenticeship Service and high-profile exhibitors like Specsavers, Northumbrian Water, PwC and Womble Bond Dickinson, gave visitors the chance to visualise the careers they may have in the future with interactive activities and demonstrations.
In post-event feedback 40% of the young people reported that before the event they felt unsure about their future, which reduced to 25% feeling unsure after their experiences at the event.
More feedback received about Skills North East:
“It has given me a better idea of what I can do after Year 11 and higher education and other experiences.” Erin, Year 10
“I really enjoyed the relaxed nature of everything today. I thought I would be overwhelmed by the information, but it’s been fun and easy to take in especially with all the information under one roof.” Parent
“I’ve attended this event with students for the past three years. It’s such a brilliant event – both for teachers and students. The information you receive is always relevant and useful. The students came back from this year’s event buzzing. They have become more knowledgeable and more excited about the future – which can only be a good thing.” Careers Lead, Christ’s College Sunderland
The Prospects Events team will now be travelling the length and breadth of the UK during October and November to bring career inspiration to thousands of young people in Yorkshire, Cardiff, Llandudno, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London and Belfast.
In addition to the autumn skills events, the Prospects Events team will also be busy delivering business networking events for Heathrow and the annual Employee Ownership Association Conference over the next few months.
The Heathrow team have been delivering business summits across the country since March and will be taking the roadshow to Edinburgh, York and Stoke-on-Trent, before completing the season with a flagship event at Heathrow Airport at the end of November.
