The Prospects Events Team have been busy over the last few months with a total of 7 events between January to March. Events took place across the UK including the Heathrow Jobs and Careers Fair, Skills South West, Skills North West and the National Career Guidance Show series.
The first event of the season, Heathrow Jobs and Careers Fair, took place at the Sofitel Hotel Terminal 5 and attracted 5,460 visitors over two days. The event was aimed at 16-24 year olds and was marketed to all secondary schools and colleges in the five key boroughs linked to Heathrow; Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Slough and Spelthorne.
Skills South West in Plymouth and Skills North West in Manchester form part of our Skills England series aimed at young people, their teachers and families. The events attracted a total of 11,339 visitors and provided local residents with the opportunity to explore the different career options available in their region by having a go at activities, attending career related seminars, watching demonstrations and interacting with employers.
The National Career Guidance Show series attracted 2,301 careers leaders, enterprise advisers, coaches and other professionals across the 4 events in London, Leeds, Coventry and a new event in Bristol. Visitors were able to access free CPD certified seminars and to speak with experts from a range of organisations, supporting the aim of the government’s new career strategy that all young people receive advice and guidance from those with sufficient skills and experience.
Visitor feedback includes:
“The information available was great and all stall personnel and seminars were very informative, especially the Apprenticeship Reform seminar. I found the other seminars just as interesting ‘What does good look like’ as they shared knowledge around expectations and work being done to improve the quality around careers guidance and those delivering training to young people. Looking forward to your next National Career Guidance Event as I didn’t manage to get around all of the stalls.” National Career Guidance Show, Carol Gardner-Wright, Education Officer, Manchester Youth Justice
“This was our 4th year attending Skills South West, as always an excellent range of employers, training providers and advisers. A very positive response from the students that attended the event.” Skills South West, Group Leader, St Boniface’s Catholic College
“A great opportunity to help my daughter find the next step to her career.” Skills South West, Parent
“I thought that you have to go to college straight after high school but I found out today that you can do some apprenticeships first.” Skills North West, Student, St Antony’s Catholic College
“Excellent event. It was well organised with lots of interactive activities for the pupils to get involved in.” Skills North West, Careers Advisor, Moorside High School
