Want to be a TV Presenter? Enter Face of SkillsCymru

The organisers of SkillsCymru are on the lookout for TWO new budding broadcast journalists, who will become the Face of SkillsCymru.

SkillsCymru are Wales’ largest skills, career and apprenticeship events, taking place in both Llandudno and Cardiff in October 2019, allowing young people from all over the country to try their hand at a whole range of careers under one roof.

As part of the event, two aspiring journalists could experience the exciting role of presenting the highlight videos, which are shared widely across social media showcasing all that the exhibition offers.

Last year, Megan Shergold, 16 from Newport and Charlotte Thomas, 22 from Rhyl won the chance to be the “Face of SkillsCymru”. They were each followed around the events by a professional film crew, while interviewing exhibitors, visitors and VIPs.

Talking about her time presenting at SkillsCymru 2018 and about the opportunities she has had since, Megan said: “Being a Face of SkillsCymru was a truly fantastic experience. Not only did I develop my public speaking skills and overall confidence, but I was also given a glimpse at possible career paths.

“Since then I have talked on SC4’s Heno and succeeded in getting a lead role in a National Theatre Connections play. I genuinely believe that my time as the Face of SkillsCymru attributed to these accomplishments because it gave me the courage to reach for more ambitious goals. I would seriously recommend applying, you never know what great things might come from it!”

If you would like the chance to boost your experience in front of the camera, show off your talents interviewing a whole range of people, and get the chance to be part of a great event, we want to hear from you. Just like Megan and Charlotte, this opportunity could lead to even greater things!

All we ask is that you are aged 16-24 and from Wales. You could be in school, college, an apprentice, working full-time or part-time, or be unemployed. We just need someone outgoing and friendly with an interest in following a career in the media. We are particularly looking for bilingual young people, but this isn’t an essential requirement

To enter the competition, submit a 60 second video clip explaining why you should be the face of SkillsCymru. Be as creative as possible, and show off your outgoing, approachable personality!

The entries will be judged by a panel including media professionals and PR experts. Two or more winners will be chosen, to cover their closest event in either Cardiff or Llandudno. These take place on 9 and 10 October 2019 and the 16 and 17 October 2019 so the winners must be available from 8am – 3pm for these dates.

The deadline to enter the competition is Friday 30 August 2019 and the winners will be notified at the beginning of September.
