South Tyneside College and Tyne Metropolitan College exhibited with us at Skills North East at the Utilita Arena on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 September 2019. Here’s what they said when we caught up with them to see how the event was going.
How have you found your time exhibiting with Skills England?
Really good. We exhibit every year with two stands and always have a wonderful time thanks to the great communication from the Skills North East team.
What have you found particularly successful during your time here?
The ease of setting up and the access. Being able to set up the day before makes the process of exhibiting so much easier.
Have you engaged in any meaningful conversations with visitors? Which conversations stood out and why?
Yes. It’s been a massive help being able to speak to young people as well as teachers and career advisors. So, it’s been useful being able to speak to everyone in one space.
Are there any activities/demonstrations on your stand that has worked particularly well?
Our hair and beauty stand worked well. Students don’t just want to hear about subject’s, but they want to get involved and hands-on, so being able to join in on demonstrations has brought a lot of attention and interest.
Would you consider this event a successful recruitment tool and why?
Yes. A lot of people come to us on open days or other events and mention they saw us at Skills North East, so it’s important that we get the opportunity to leave an impression.
How will you measure your return on investment since exhibiting?
We capture the data while we’re here, inform the young person of what’s available at the college, invite them to open days and monitor the learner’s journey.
Can you sum up the event in one word?
